The Venice Fishing Pier is getting some much-needed work done.

On Thursday, Aug 20, 2020, the Board of Recreation and Park Commissioners approved phase one of the Venice Fishing Pier maintenance and repair project.

Phase one is the repair and maintenance of the pier that has been damaged over the decades, according to Bob Davis, Venice Supervisor of Recreations and Parks. It also includes repair to structural damage by a fire that broke out on June 26, 2018. The area damaged by the fire is between the parking lot and the pier lifeguard tower.

The pier has been closed to the public since March 2020. Recreations and Parks staff say it will remain closed until further notice while the repair projects occur.

The price tag of the repairs is estimated to be around $4 million. The contract to do the repairs went to Bellingham Marine Industries, Inc.

The City of Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering (BOE) is the lead department managing the contract.

Repairs are estimated to last until May 21, 202
